Jack Driscol was born in a writing session from 2010. Jack is a Police Detective Lieutenant on the Homicide squad of Circle City, which is a stand in for Indianapolis.. He’s a Hoosier guy. He likes basketball, and beef and drives a vintage Studebaker. In the years since the original story, “The Smiling Assassin Sings the Blues”, Jack has reappeared periodically and his character has been filled out along with his associates and past experiences. As he ages, life happens and he leaves the force and becomes a PI, a Private Investigator.
The Driscol stories do not follow a particular time line but come from all phases of his life. They take place in and around Indy from between the early 1960s into the 1990s. He got his start in police work as an MP serving in Vietnam. An early, brief, marriage failed due to his police life as a rookie. Except for a succession of cats, he has lived alone ever since in a small brick craftsman house built in the 1920s on the near north side of the city. He’s a good guy dealing with the tough, bad and sad sides of humanity.
